Aunt Vivvy is my dad’s sister.
I never knew my Aunt Vivvy very much until I moved to her town after getting married. I love my Aunt Vivvy. She is very real and always brings me just what I need without knowing I needed it. Like the time I was getting ready to sew some of J’s old holey knee pants into shorts. I was going to just use black thread for the hems. I was cutting the legs off of the pants when Aunt Vivvy knocked on the door. She had a spool of thread with her… the color used for denim stitching. Cool, I know.
She also knits the best slippers in the whole world. They are uber-comfy because she puts an extra layer of padding on the bottom. I wear them so much I put holes in them.
I didn’t want to throw them away until I got a new pair. I love them that much.
My Aunt Vivvy hasn’t had an easy life. (She is a member of my dysfunctional family, after all.) She lost her husband to cancer when she was in her early 40s and 2 of her 3 children were still in school. She got through it and supported her family all by herself. She even went back to school and got her bachelor’s degree. She never has a victim’s attitude. She works hard and keeps chugging along.
Earlier this year, my Aunt Vivvy was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a mastectomy in June. She wasn’t too upset about losing a boob, but she was mad that they made her stay in the hospital overnight and that she had to take a week off from work.
Today, she goes in for her 3rd dose of chemo. She’s tired. She doesn’t feel good. But she won’t tell you that. Instead, she’ll tell you that she’s doing fine and that she is really happy with her wig, it matches her natural color.
Aunt Vivvy isn’t going to let breast cancer get her down…she’s gonna kick it’s ass. And then she’s going to go knit some slippers.
Aunt Vivvy, you are my hero.

Happy Bloggyversary!
When my mom had breast cancer, I had her a keychain engraved that she could hold during chemo that said, “Kick cancer’s ass!”
Go, Aunt Vivvy! We’re praying for you!
