Update: July 22, 2008. This page, like um, never gets updated. Because I haven’t read a book cover-to-cover in months. I’ll pretend you actually give a shit and start working on that.
Update: August 7, 2008. Holy shit. I’ve read TWO whole books since then. And… I’m now implementing a patented 5 star rating system.
1 star = Something along the lines of boring, couldn’t finish, sucked ass, do not bother.
2 stars = Eh. Finished it, but there’s several hours of my life I’ll never get back.
3 stars = Decent. Wasn’t disappointed.
4 stars = Very interesting. Good characters, plot, ending. (Or in the case of non-fiction, it was very emotionally stirring.)
5 stars = See above + Everyone lives happily ever after, AKA it ended exactly how I thought it should. Greatest! Book! Evah!
The Pact by Jodi Picoult
3 1/2 stars. Fictional drama-ish (I suck at placing genres) book about 2 families/best friends who are torn apart by tragedy. I’m trying to figure out why I’m only giving it 3 1/2 stars, because I couldn’t put it down after a certain point. I just think it’s missing a little something. (Which, I know, who I am to criticize, because lookit the shit I write.)
Moscow Rules by Daniel Silva
4 stars. This is the 5th? 6th? 7th? book in the Gabriel Allon series. This time he has to figure out how to stop a Russian arms dealer who is selling advanced weoponry to terrorists. (The originality of the plot, let me show you it.) I love Gabriel but I am really disappointed his wife lived through yet another book. Ever since he met Chiara, I’ve been hoping someone would take her out. No idea why.
Captivating by Stasi Eldredge
This is my all-time favorite book. I love it and you should read it. If you are woman, that is. But I don’t think I have to be too clear on that, because my male readership is like -12.
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
Umm, I wish I could say that I finished this book. But I didn’t. I read 2 pages and said “eh, I really don’t feel like reading right now.” And then the library wanted their book back.
A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown
Memoir of how Cup overcame the loss of her mother, being failed repeatedly by ‘the system’, drug use, prostitution, gang involvement, and much more.
Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
Hilarious and disgustingly creepy at the same time. I read the book first. The movie pissed me off. For crying out loud…how hard is it to stick to the f’n book?
The Horse: A Miscellany of Equine Knowledge by Julie Whitaker
Good for people like me who know next to nothing about horses. Lots of info on everything from Horses in History to basic equine anatomy. I didn’t read it from cover to cover, just flipped through and read things that piqued my interest. Because I like to do things half-assed like that sometimes.
What is an interesting, enjoyable book for me?
The Cat in The Hat by Dr. Seuss.
I know where you went to school, so I can’t really recommend anything more complicated than that.
I love you Teefee!
Hey, I loved “Running with Scissors”! But I never saw the movie because I heard it sucked. Oh, and i just heard that Augusten Burroughs settled out of court with his foster family, who sued him for libel after that book was published.
Just some random stuff I know.
